SLO County Hosts Special Olympics Athletes
Atascadero Rotary Club and the City of Atascadero hosted 100 International Special Olympics Athletes from the Arab nation of Dubai Wednesday, July 22. The athletes are set to compete in the World Games in Los Angeles this Saturday. They were given a rich taste of our culture- first experiencing Disneyland and Universal Studios, along with other attractions here on the Central Coast, like our famous SLO Farmer’s Market before the games.
According to Queen Elsa, “Anna, Spiderman and I, greeted them at Nelson Park in Arroyo Grande as part of their welcoming celebration into the county. Once off their tour buses, the Olympians immediately and enthusiastically raced toward us, showering us with hugs and kisses. The excitement in their eyes in meeting us face to face was unreal! Some took videos with us for their loved ones on the other side of the globe, and many smiles and moments of tender endearment were exchanged despite any language barriers. It was such a beautiful and touching event and we all felt honored to be a part of it!”
A Wish Your Heart Makes is proud of all the Special Olympics athletes and wishes them the best of luck during their games!
